Bette and her husband Roger (SEMCO treasurer for eighteen years but now
deceased) began working with computers when Sinclair first came out with its
little computer that you could hook up to your television. Bette went on to
learn the Internet through the Cooperative Extension Service when the Internet
consisted mostly of hook-ups to the major universities. She wrote the first
program for keeping track of all the Master Gardeners in Oakland County
(Michigan) as Master Gardener Coordinator using PC File. She became a
browser with over two thousand bookmarks and does secretarial and bookkeeping
type things on her PC as required. Upon Roger's passing, she needed help
learning her way around HIS computer. She joined the Senior Net chapter at
the Troy Community Center. She not only found classes that could fulfill
her needs, but is now a regular coach for other seniors wanting to learn more
about computers.
